Sera, Hiroshima — Summer

A quiet summer afternoon in a highland town

Sera sits in the very middle of Hiroshima Prefecture, a small highland town where you can walk along the river from one end to the other. I brought three Pentax 67 medium-format lenses on a GFX. No bullet trains, no tourist crowds — just the cool air of the plateau and a quiet summer afternoon.

This trip is not in a book yet. The photos go out one a day on social media; here they are collected as magazine pages, in the order they arrived.

Sera is a plateau town about 400 m above sea level. Follow the river through town and you pass a bridge with red railings and rows of tiled roofs, unhurried.

Upstream there is a shrine with a red arched bridge hidden in the trees. A little farther on, an old farmhouse served lunch in a tatami room whose windows were full of green.

The Pentax 67 lenses were heavy, but they caught the quiet air of Sera softly, just as it was. There are no tourist crowds here — and yet it is a town I want to walk again. Why not take your favorite vintage lens and visit Sera yourself?
